Steve Ferreira's presentation basically lets people know what it’s like to live with a disability. He talks about his distress at birth and how he became disabled through birth trauma. His presentation then talks about his life experiences as a small child through the college years and how he sometimes struggled. There are also many good experiences that he encountered because of his disability. Steve talks about how disabled people can accomplishment many things although sometimes they may look a little different. Finally, he describes all the sports that he’s been involved with over the years, including his international competitions and medals.

Orca Athletics Mission

Encourage student development through competitive sports opportunities which enhance quality education and teach teamwork, leadership, citizenship, and responsibility.

Athletics helps build a sense of "campus community" and pride, while strengthening the relationship between the college and our local community.

About Orca Athletics

Intercollegiate athletics provides a variety of learning experiences for students and helps build pride and a sense of community for the College. Currently, WCC supports intercollegiate teams in three sports: men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball. All of the “Orcas” home games are held in either the Pavilion or the Orca athletic field on campus.

Soccer and volleyball seasons begin in September and end in late November. Basketball begins in mid-November and runs through the end of February. Complete schedules are included in the quarterly Events Calendar. WCC competes in the Northern Region of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Character, Competition, and Community define the Whatcom Community College Athletics Program. Orca Athletics puts students first and supports their success by connecting student athletes with the outstanding resources available at the College. To become part of the WCC Athletics experience, contact the coach for specific program information or any of our Athletics staff.
