New Student Orientation

International Programs provides a mandatory orientation for incoming international students each quarter. The goal of the orientation is to provide information regarding WCC programs and policies, immigration regulations, and campus and community resources. In addition, the orientation provides an opportunity for student to meet friends and smoothly transition into their studies at WCC.

Orientation Topics:

  • Student visa rules and regulations

  • Campus tour

  • The American education system

  • Academic programs at WCC

  • Student life – at the college and in the community

  • Health and safety

  • Living in a homestay

  • International student activities

  • Opening a bank account in the U.S.

English Placement Testing:

On the first day of orientation, students complete English placement testing which is required of all students (American and international students). Computer assessments of grammar, reading, listening, writing skills, and an oral interview are used to place students in language classes that will ensure their academic success at WCC.  Students will have access to paper dictionaries for the writing portion of the placement test.

Registration and Payment:

Students will meet with the International Student Advisor and register for their classes during orientation. It is important to note that students are required to pay tuition on the first day of the quarter. Tuition can be paid by cash, by Travelers Checks, or by credit card (Visa and MasterCard are accepted). Most students prefer to pay for their tuition with a credit card from their home country, as it is most convenient.
