Film 101: Intro to Film
Film 101 is designed to introduce students with no previous film study to the fundamental concepts of film with particular focus on answering the question “How do movies express meanings?” Implied in this question are many other topics, such as how we as viewers understand those meanings, and how cinema functions as both an art and a business. The aim of the course is to move students step-by-step from a casual enjoyment of films to a more scholarly understanding of film as a complex interplay of form and technique, a series of aesthetic and practical choices.
