Housing Options
Homestay
Whatcom's Homestay program provides a unique cultural experience for both the host and international student. Students experience American culture while sharing their own culture with their hosts.
- Hosts include married and unmarried couples, with or without children, single hosts, native and non-native English speaking families, families with and without pets.
- Hosts reside in Bellingham and around Whatcom county.
- $500 per month
- Application Deadline for Homestay: At least 6 weeks prior to your arrival in the U.S.
Print & complete Homestay Student Application , and submit with $50 placement fee.
Residence Halls at Western Washington University
Residence Halls at Western Washington University in Bellingham provides on campus housing to Whatcom students in Birnam Wood on a space available basis.

Rental Apartments & Houses
Some students prefer to rent a room, apartment or house, independently or with roommates. There are many rental options in and around Bellingham.
- Private rentals are abundant in Bellingham--available to rent through private parties, and through rental agencies.
- Most renters are required to sign leases ranging from six months to a year, and pay additional damage deposits.
- Rentals rarely include furniture (bed, couch, desk, etc.)
