WCC International Programs Study Abroad offers a variety of short and long-term study abroad programs all over the world!
Alajuela, Costa Rica - Winter 2010
January 2 - March 13, 2010
Costa Rica, Land of many natural wonders: Carribean and Pacific coastlines, luscious rainforests, abundant animal and plant life, and volcanoes. Students immerse themselves in language and culture while being surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty and the warm, welcoming people of Costa Rica.
The Costa Ricans (Ticos) are dedicated to promoting harmony between nature, community development, and economic growth. They have made a major commitment to protecting the nation's natural resources and beauty while preserving the long tradition of political democracy and stability.
Program costs: $5,999 (excluding airfare, college tuition/fees, & anything not specified)
- Accommodation in a single rooms with homestay families in Alajuela including breakfast and dinner.
- On-site orientation and guided walking tour of Alajuela
- Cultural activities program incl. mini courses in Costa Rican Art, Costa Rican Folk Music, Central American issues, The Diversity of Costa Rica's Forests, etc., as well as subsidized trips to a Costa Rican Art Museum, the National Museum, the Juan Santamaria Historical Museum, etc.
- Students have the choice of earning 10 Spanish credits (Levels 121-223) and taking one class offered by the WCCCSA instructor OR earning 5 Spanish credtis and taking both classes offered by WCCCSA faculty. Classes offered by WCCCSA faculty: Modern Latin American History and Introduction to Latin American Literature.
- All classes held at the Instituto de Cultura y Lengua Costariccense (ICLC).
- Free weekends to explore Costa Rica's many attractions. ICLC staff assists students with travel arrangements. Trips offered include: Arenal Volcano & Baldi Hot Springs, Canopy Tour in San Lorenzo, Tortuga Island Pacific Cruise, Rafting Pacuare, Poas Volcano & La Paz Waterfalls, and more ...
Florence, Italy - Spring 2010
March 25 - June 4, 2010
Live and study for 10 weeks in Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance. The city is the perfect location to study many subjects, most of all art and art history. One of the artistic capitals of the world, Florence was home to famous artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Donatello. The city also has a proud literary heritage, contributed by writers like Dante, Petrarch, and Machiavelli. Students earn a full quarter of transferable college credits. Frequent field trips and travel opportunities enable students to experience the culture and history of this great city as well as the beautiful countryside of Italy.
Program cost: $6,550.00 (excludes airfare, a $250 damage deposit, tuition & anything not specified)
- Accommodation in fully furnished, shared apartments (typically 4 students per apartment) in the historical center of Florence
- Guided day trip to Siena and San Gimignano
- On-site orientation and half-day guided walking tour
- Free wireless Internet access in the AIFS Study Center during class hours Mo - Fri, plus a card for use at a chain of Internet cafes in Florence
- Weekly subsidized cultural activities, incl. cooking classes, wine-tasting lectures, ballet, soccer matches, a day-trip to Pisa, concerts and film nights
- Museum pass valid for the duration of the program with unlimited entry to the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia, Bargello, Pitti Palace, San Marco Museum, and Medici Chapel
- Membership with borrowing rights at the British Institute Library in Florence
- Classes offered: Italian Language, Life & Culture (HUM), Introduction to World Literature and Creative Writing. Learning Contracts are possible!
- Optional meal plan $495 consisting of 25 vouchers for either lunch or dinner in a local trattoria in Florence
