Distance Learning
Online Classes
WCC is a member of Washington Online Consortium (WAOL), a cooperative effort of the Washington State Community and Technical Colleges system that gives students an exciting opportunity to take classes outside the typical face-to-face classroom setting.
- Online classes are not self-paced. You will need to participate every day of the week. However, you can participate in the class at your convenience and on your own schedule.
- For more information about online learning, WAOL, technology and skills requirements, go to WAOL .
- Since online courses are offered through WAOL, the quarterly dates and deadlines (enrollment period, start date, refund deadlines and end dates) will be different than those for Whatcom classes. For specific dates and deadlines each quarter, check the Registration Calendar.
- Register for your online course just as you would for any other WCC class. Online classes are listed with other college offerings with a designation of "ONL" for the section. Online registration is possible for eligible students. Visit My Student Info (O.A.S.I.S.) (Online Access to Student Information and Services) for quarterly class schedules, registration and other online student services.
- Fees for online courses are in lieu of tuition, regardless of the total number of registered credits. The credits for online courses are not counted toward the credit payment ranges in the Tuition and Fees chart.
- Technical help is available from the WAOL website.
Questions About Online Learning? Contact the Distance Learning Office in Kulshan Hall, Room 206, or call (360) 383-3513.
Interactive Television
Interactive television (ITV) courses are held on campus but may be shared, through technology, with another site or college. The ITV classroom is located in the Heiner building, room 108, which is accessible through the library. Your instructor may be at WCC or from another college, but you will be registered in a WCC class.
Register for your course just as you would for any other WCC class. ITV courses are listed with other college offerings with a designation of "ITV" for the section. Online registration is possible for eligible students. Visit My Student Info (O.A.S.I.S.) (Online Access to Student Information and Services) for quarterly class schedules, registration and other online student services.
Telecourses combine video programs, print materials, and assignments with facilitation by a WCC instructor, to give students the flexibility to study at home. You may need to meet for a few classes on campus. Please attend the first class for schedule information.
- Content of telecourses is comparable to equivalent courses offered on campus.
- Course tapes are available from the library for home or library use.
- Register for your telecourse just as you would for any other WCC class. Telecourses are listed with other college offerings with a designation of "TEL" for the section. Online registration is possible for eligible students. Visit My Student Info (O.A.S.I.S.) (Online Access to Student Information and Services) for quarterly class schedules, registration and other online student services.
- Telecourses have a fee of $42 in addition to regular tuition.
