Stafford Loans at WCC

  • Before you can apply for a Federal Stafford Loan, you must first complete the financial aid application process.

  • You begin this process by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • You cannot apply for a Federal Stafford Loan until you have received information from WCC's Financial Aid Office indicating you may now apply for a Federal Stafford Loan.

  • Federal regulations require that a first time borrower enrolled in a new program wait 30 days into their first quarter before they can receive any loan funds. Borrowers in this category will be notified in writing upon certification of their loan. This only applies to the first disbursement, not any subsequent disbursements.

  • Federal regulations require that Stafford Loans be disbursed in at least two equal disbursements. Borrowers who have a loan certified for one quarter will receive half of their certified loan at the beginning of that quarter; the second half will be disbursed at the mid-point of that quarter. Borrowers in this category will be notified in writing upon certification of their loan.

  • Federal regulations require that borrowers with less than 3 quarters left to graduate will have their loan prorated based on the number of credits needed to graduate.

  •  Loan fees may be charged by your lender, including origination and/or default fees. This is information is disclosed by your lender as per federal regulations.
