However, you could use what is below to get started. I will bring the extra copies to class tomorrow.

CHAPTER 8 ASSIGNMENT Name:_______________________
Due: Thursday, 11/1910 pts – Complete on separate paper 1. Solve the following system of linear equations three times. Once by graphing on graph paper, once by the substitution method, and once by the addition method (hopefully, all three methods will yield the same solution!). Show all work for full credit.
2x + y = 11 x + 3y = 18
2. Solve the following systems of equations using either the addition or the substitution method. To check your answers, use the calculator to find the answers graphically as well for each problem.
a)
b) 4x – 5y = 3
-8x + 10y = -6
3. Use a system of equations to solve each of the following problems. Be sure to identify both variables and answer the question being asked.
a) The perimeter of Greg’s rectangular fence is 170 feet. The length of the deck is four times the width. Find the dimensions of the deck.
b) Two search and rescue teams leave camp at the same time and walk in opposite directions looking for a lost child. The speed of the first team is three less than twice the speed of the second team. In 4 hours they are 36 miles apart. Find the speed of each team.
