Film 110: Film Genres


Film 110 is an introduction to the study of selected major film genres. From westerns to sci-fi to classical Hollywood romance and many more, this course includes the analysis and discussion of representative genre films to determine their formulae, conventions and iconography. Additionally, by mapping the historical, sociological and mythological dimensions of genre, this course examines the interplay and change between ideas of popular culture and the function of genres. Students will gain an appreciation and understanding for the role of various film “types.”
